Destination
& Arrival
Albania offers stunning mountains, picturesque coastlines, hiking trails, rafting, climbing, mountain biking, national parks, and historic cities for adventure and nature enthusiasts.
Interesting spots/trails
Snow conditions similar to those by the sea and one of the snowiest places in Europe, about 85 km from the Mediterranean, the snow here resembles that of Alaska. The Prokletije is the wettest region in Europe overall. In the village of Boga, the annual precipitation amounts to 3,033 millimeters. In higher elevations, snow often persists throughout the year, even in summer. During winter, some villages in the Albanian part of the Prokletije are completely cut off from the outside world for months due to extreme snowfall. So, it's the perfect place for your heliskiing adventure in Albania.
Travel options
The best way to reach the destination is by plane. Travel times are as follows: Tirana is 4 hours and 15 minutes away, Skopje (North Macedonia) is 3 hours and 40 minutes away, and Pristina (Kosovo) is 2 hours and 30 minutes away. We are happy to arrange your flight and transfer for you.
Program
Here’s what your week of heliskiing in Albania might look like:
On the first day, you will receive a brief orientation either in the evening or the next morning. This will cover the basics of helicopter operations, avalanche safety, communication, and our procedures. Our goal is to build a strong team with our guests and make the most out of the available terrain.
Daily schedule:
A typical day begins with breakfast at 7 AM. Depending on the weather, we start flying at either 8 or 9 AM. Lunch is usually taken outdoors around noon, and we ski as long as motivation, physical condition, and weather permit. Ideally, we return to the base around 4 PM, and dinner follows at 6 or 7 PM.
Daily plans are based on weather conditions as well as the preferences and abilities of the participants.
Guiding
All guides are fully qualified IFMGA guides with specialized heliskiing training. Lead guide Rok Zalokar has extensive experience in heliskiing both in Europe and Alaska. We do have detailed protocols for helicopter flights, safety training, guiding, communication, and avalanche safety. Rok is an IFMGA instructor in avalanche safety and skiing, as well as a member of the Pieps Pro Team.
Tips & Info
Minimum requirements for all participants:
Participants should already have experience skiing in deep snow and handling black runs to meet the minimum skill level requirements. A group booking of individuals who are already familiar with each other can significantly simplify the organization. This allows us to potentially include less experienced skiers and choose more suitable terrain, provided they still have some experience skiing in deep snow.
