The Dachstein Mountains (also just Dachstein) is a part of the northern eastern Alps. The highest elevation is with 2995 m a.s.l. the High roof stone, which is also the highest mountain in Upper Austria and Styria.
The Dachstein Mountains are located in three Austrian provinces: in the east and south in Styria, in the west in Salzburg and in the middle and north in Upper Austria.
The majority of the Dachstein Mountains, together with the Inner Salzkammergut, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut.
